By Katina Brady
The Dodge Challenger right hand drive conversion is becoming very popular but one needs to take care when changing it over. Any changes need to meet with specific requirements. When doing a Challenger rhd conversion and changing the wiper mechanism to the opposite side of the vehicle it needs to be done with meticulous care so to ensure that the original sweeping movement has not been changed and is still the same as was intended by the manufacturer.
These cars have three different generations to it and are marketed by the Dodge division of Chrysler. The Dodge Challenger was made during the late 1950s and during the early 1970s, the first pony car was built. The second generation was produced during the late 1970s to the early 1980s. The last creation was introduced in 2008 and is still running.
The suspension has been re engineered to improve the handling as well as any avoidance manoeuvres one might need to make. The rear suspension has a five link and ensures a more comfortable ride because of the lower springs. This will ensure that the tires have better contact with the road and at the same time will help with the removal of road noise.
An extra heat proof shield can be made to provide a bit more insulation as well as using the original manufacturer's one. The engine will need to be completely removed as a complete modification of the bell housing needs to be done. The starter motor will also need to be moved to the other side to allow the steering intermediate shaft to come through.
The interior comes with a three spoke thick rimmed steering wheel and a short six speed manual gear. The seats come in cloth or leather bucket seats making this a very comfortable car to drive. The back seat can fold down giving easy access to the trunk for those much larger items that need to be transported.
The grill was taken from a charger prototype and was popular with the public. The 1970 model alone sold over seventy six thousand but was criticized by the press. This did not help with the sales and eventually the production stopped. The 1973 model however rose and close to twenty eight thousand was sold. All in all this generation of make of car sold over one hundred and sixty five thousand.
These cars came with either a hard top coupe or a convertible body. The engine was either a V8 or an I6. The V8 is an engine with eight cylinders and they are mounted on a crankcase. They are generally set at right angles to one another with four on each side. It did tend to vibrate and in the 1920s a crankshaft with heavier counterweights were added and these tended to eliminate the vibrations.
It is always a good idea to take the car to a dealership whom is experienced in changing the challenger into a right hand drive conversion. They will ensure that every change made will be completed to the highest of standards possible. Each process will be explained before the changes are made.
