Supercar manufacturing firms have not really gotten the memo concerning high gas costs, even if many people are feeling the squeeze. There are a growing number of high performance green cars, but that hasn't stemmed the tide of traditional performance cars in the least. A person can afford a few extra dollars at the pump if they can afford an Aston Martin.

    Speed at McLaren

AutoWeek states the sports automobile business McLaren is working on a car that will come out in 2014. The company that brought the world the F1, the fastest road automobile in the world for almost a decade, is releasing its new vehicle this year, the MP4-12C, but McLaren is not content to rest on its laurels. Now, McLaren has a new project. The vehicle will get about 800 horsepower with its 5-liter engine. In 2.8 seconds, the car should be able to go from 0 to 60 while being able to go from 0 to 200 miles per hour faster than the Bugatti Veyron with a price tag of $500,000.

The work available at General Motors

To be able to get a new Corvette, GM is putting $131 million into getting a better version of Chevrolet's sports car adding about 250 new jobs, states CNN. The new Corvette probably will not be ready for release for a few years, but the new positions will open soon at the General Motors plant in Bowling Green, Ky., where the Corvette has been produced since 1981. There is no detailed information available about this new Corvette yet, and no release date has been set at this point. Popular Mechanics states that Chevrolet is considering a new Camaro for 2012 with ZL1 Camaro as the name. The ZL1 will have the same 6.2L V-8 that comes in the Cadillac CTS-V, which produces more than 550 horsepower.

Individuals want more than fast in an automobile now

The environment isn't the top priority for auto vehicle makers for sure. Still, some of these auto makers want to help a little bit. Hybrid vehicle engineers are being interviewed by McLaren. It hopes to create more "green" automobiles. The new 918 Spyder is a car sold by Porsche currently that is a plug-in hybrid that will top out at 199 miles an hour, drives three more miles than the plug-in Prius hybrid can on electric power alone and will go from 0 to 60 in 3.1 seconds, reports USA Today. It gets 78 miles per gallon in it too. Ferrari unveiled a hybrid version of the 599 last year and intends to have hybrid versions of all of its cars by 2015, according to the Daily Mail. The hybrid 599, the 599 HY-KERS, will do 200 miles an hour and get up to 25 miles per hour, though it still has a V-12automobile can get 200 miles per hour and up to 25 miles per hour. Popular Science states that in 2009, Lamborghini announced it wanted to have a hybrid by 2015. All the cars are going green now.
