Victorville Motors in Victorville, Calif., has a distinctive deal exercised with local high schools. In exchange for perfect attendance, two lucky pupils drawn in a raffle can win a 2013 Dodge Dart.

    More students have ideal attendance

Apparently, the It's a Gas to Go to Class program has been very successful. Not only has Victorville Motors seen a massive increase in the number of vehicles sold during the last 18 months because of the plan, it has also seen a huge increase in ideal attendance at participating schools. The schools have also seen a massive increase in academic performance and overall attendance.

"I had no idea how successful it would be," said 47-year-old Victorville Motors dealer principal Tim Watts.

A business that prides itself for its community involvement, Victorville Motors has raised funds and sponsored events for several local organizations. When a local parent asked if the dealership had considered giving away an automobile, a light bulb went off in Watts' mind.

"It wasn't just about us. We wanted to do it as a multi-layered approach and an outreach that includes other local businesses," said Watts.

    Dodge Dart and on-target results

In 2012, Victorville Motors saw an enormous increase in car sales to 850 brand new automobiles and 756 used vehicles. This success is in part due to the Dodge Dart promotion. There has also been an enormous increase in school work. Six school districts and 12 high schools are participating in the plan. There used to only be 15 to 20 kids with ideal attendance, but that number has increased to hundreds of pupils since the program started.

Pupils are motivated towards ideal attendance with supplemental prizes such as gift cards. Students who maintain a perfect work record will be able to participate in the Dodge Dart raffle with golden tickets they are given. The winner's parents will usually get the car if the winner is under 18 since minors are not permitted to win automobiles in the state of California. This is how the raffle works, and it has definitely been effective.
