Everyone in the world, whether you are a man or a woman, would love to have a Porsche to drive around and show off. The brand has become so well known down through the decades that it has become a symbol of having arrived. Right now, you are convinced that not only can you afford a Porsche 911 SC but you deserve to have one. Prior to your purchase however, do read on this article for more information on this motoring icon.

The 911 SC model is the one made to replace the 911 Targa that was very much popular in the late 60s up to the late 70s of the twentieth century. SC is an acronym meaning Super Carrera to distinguish it from the revered Targa model. The SC was produced in production line from the years of 1978 to 1983. Despite its short production run, the model is still considered a very much desirable item.

Design options for the 911 SC are basically 3 that the customer can choose from being all 2-door varieties, being the Targa, Coupe, and Cabriolet designs. 1983 also saw an option for a full open top with a fabric hood. Depending on where you live and how the market is, your choice of design can either be more expensive or a lot cheaper as the case may be when compared to the other designs.

As with most earlier models, the engine is located in the rear boot with a standard 3.0 liters engine couple with a 5 speed transmission. The engine can fork out over 200 horsepower which is characteristic of Porsches giving them a boost in acceleration. What helps them give this uncanny boost is because of materials used in the engine.

The engine is made of aluminum, and thus it goes without saying that it will be lighter with the same kinds of engines in its class. As aluminum is fairly heat resistant, it is designed as an air cooled engine and not radiator cooled. Thus the absence of a radiator makes the overall body weight of the 911 much lighter and thus faster. Apart from being a rear wheel drive, there are versions wherein all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive can be installed.

As the engine is air cooled, you can already surmise right away if this is the vehicle of choice for you or not. If you live in a fairly temperate climate that is basically cool all the year round then this car will be ideal for you. However, if you do live in a desert like or tropical like climate then in the long run this car may give you problems.

Being a specialized manufactured engine, do not expect surplus and generic parts to exist for this car. Thus an issue also you may have to contend with is the actual cost of materials and expertise need for maintenance. It may cost you up to ten times more in maintenance costs on top of paying a trained mechanic that handles such engines.

In sum never buy a car based on initial or surface price alone. Also look at corresponding costs that you will gain in the long run, such as maintenance and discussed in this article. Always look at all the cost factors before making a final buying decision on big ticket items.
