With my trusty truck I moved up to the North East after college. Living the most of my life in warmer climates, I really didn't know that much about snow and driving in wintery weather. The first winter was extremely bad. The truck lacked a four wheel drive however, I always thought the front wheel drive is ideal to get you through normal situations. The case was not the same in the first winter. I moved into an apartment on the top of a hill before the first snow fall.

On normal days there was no problem getting in and out of the driveway. However, when the second snowfall started it became difficult to drive the truck. Coming out of the driveway was not a big problem. But coming up the driveway was a nightmare. I can't count the times I get stuck trying to just get into the garage. The driveway was like an ice rink due to the ice and slick at the top. At first I took a running start and came up without stopping.I managed to reach the top of the drive without stopping in the middle. But as the winter wore on the top of driveway became more more packed with ice, the trick of getting a running start just make let me clear most the driveway. My truck would get stuck near the garage gate. At night I had to dig the truck to get inside.

The condition of my tires were bad by the time the snow melted. The local tire shop had a large selection of tires, but there were so many tires to choose from. Being money conscious, I looked for the best deal on all some season tires. The sales people told me that the all season tires are not perfect for driving in the snow. He suggested that I get a set of a performance tires for my truck driving through the summer and then switch to winter ones in the fall.

At first I thought he was trying to make me buy an extra set of tires. But after some research I found out that smart drivers actually keep two sets of tires: one for summer one for winter. In order to drive on dry roads the performance tires are considered to be the best. The winter tires are specifically designed for the cold months. You can find the best bargain by switching back and forth.

No other tires can compete with the Cooper tires during the severe winter months. You will be able to save a lot of money this way. Two sets of tires would last much longer than a single set that would get stuck in snow and wear down. The shop also gave me information about the rebates available online. I started waiting to get another rebate. The following year, I had no problem making it up my driveway.
