When driving on a wavy surface, the measurement of the slope helps the driver moving up or down with correct speed and power. One needs to make use of any of the available slope meters on his or her dashboard to get an accurate reading of any of the slopes. While driving the hilly roads, it helps determine the safe "curve-speed" most accurately and almost instantly.

The basic component in this instrument is a base side which is mounted properly on the dashboard of a vehicle or on any other place where continuous measurement of slope is recorded and viewed. On top of this base plate stands a hollow disc which is filled up halfway with heavy liquid. The liquid level displays the inclination angle on a graduated scale which is marked on the glass surface of the disc.

The most crucial tool for all types of slopes and crown construction is definitely the inclination meters. It helps drive the bull-dozers, motor graders, and other similar equipment. "Percent of grade" can also be determined while working on asphalt pavers, tunneling machines, wheel ditchers, etc.

The instrument helps maintain the correct speed and optimum fuel consumption while driving up hilly roads. It is generally mounted on the dashboard in the driver's view. Correct and continuous measurement of the slope angle can fix the safe "curve-speed" with accuracy.

Water puddles that accumulate on roads after a heavy shower causes trouble for drivers. This happens due to a buildup of flat surfaces or low spots while constructing the road slopes. However, present day engineers use tilt meters to improve accuracy in slope while constructing these roads, and eliminate problems like this completely.

Calculating the slope improves the operator's efficiency by letting him work in adverse weather or conditions like rainfall, dust-storm, snowfall, darkness, etc. The accuracy of the hermetically sealed instrument is never affected once it is installed correctly, and the instrument is quite robust or stoutly built.

These meters are also known as inclinometers, clinometers, tilt meters, slope gauge, gradient meter, level meter, and declinometer. Three different units of measurement are provided in these meters including degree, topo, and percentage. The indicator is available in both analog and digital display mode as well.

Apart from use in construction, passenger vehicles also often use tilt meters in areas such as hilly roads. If the car is in horizontal position, the indicator shows the zero value or level value. When the car inclines or declines from the level position, the exact inclination value is displayed on the indicator.

The sensitive electronic tilt meters can give an output value of up to 0.0001 degree. Accuracy of a tilt meter depends on the range of data measured, initial setting of zero value, and sensitivity of the instrument. However, instruments need to be upgraded in case perfect accuracy is required in extreme temperatures with sub-zero values or intense heat.
