There are people who mistakenly think that the job of a sales representative is dull and boring. The truth is these are the people who have kept and are keeping the automotive industry alive. Whenever new automotive models are brought out, it is the job of the sales representative to sell them.

Cars are long-term investments that could be a bit pricey. This is one reason why customers take their own sweet time in choosing the car they want to buy.

People who wish to buy a car usually look for fuel efficiency, conformability and safety. If there is a car in the dealership that offers all of these 3 features then the sales representative would only need to make the correct moves to deal with a soon-to-be satisfied customer.

On the other hand, this job is challenging and takes time and practice to build rapport with the customer. Not everybody is good at selling cars and if one has the talent for it then there is no reason for them to not give it a go.

When a potential customer enters the dealership, the representative knows that the person is interested in buying a car. It is time to get to the point after the initial pleasantries are done with.

    * Will it be for personal or family use? Does the customer have any model in mind?

    * Does the potential car owner do a lot of work or carry a lot of things?

    * What is the budget?

    * Does the car have to have certain safety features?

    * Which color do they prefer?

The sales representative can narrow down the models and show the cars that fit the needs of the customer. Take into consideration some important details like the safety features, additional amenities, and total fuel consumption for city and highway driving.

The sales representative will then allow the customer to sit in the car to get a feel. Both can also go for a test drive to feel and see how well it performs on the road.

During the lean days and months in the car selling business, the management comes up with different promotional offers to draw in and entice potential customers to purchase a car.

The additional freebies could be a low payment or a zero interest plan. Some car dealerships even offer low down payments with easy terms to pay over a few years that make it affordable for the customer.

A vehicle's warranty is another major concern. Just what is the coverage of the warranty?

The sales representative can explain in full detail about the warranty and its coverage. Service contracts are also available for the cases that are not covered by the warranty.

The service contract may require an additional fee from the customer; however, if a sales representative is honest and friendly then the car is really as good as sold.

There are customers that do not immediately decide on the day itself whether they would purchase the car. They could even take up to a week. The sales representative would then give the customer a calling card and just follow-up.

Simply put, the automotive industry does make money by selling cars. This task is easily accomplished by well-trained sales representatives out there on the sales floor.

In addition to the regular basic pay, a sales representative for the car industry also earns additional commissions for each car sold. Now you know why car selling is really fun.

However, the second most common method for selling cars is through private sales. Maybe you are looking at selling your own baby? The best approach when first planning to sell a car privately is to do a little research, about the market--to be armed with enough info. You can do that easily by determining how much your old vehicle is worth.

Try to determine the answers to these important questions: What kind of buyer is most likely to be interested in this kind of car? Is it a popular commodity? Is it likely to receive multiple offers? Is the car going to be easy to sell? In order to answer these questions with accurate results, the first step should be to check some car ads online.

Once you have your questions answered, the second most important thing should be turning your attention to the appearance of the car or truck. Be sure to have it professionally detailed, or save money and do it yourself. Clean the trunk if it has one, the engine compartment to a decent degree, then get out your car wash buckets, soap, and a good microfiber drying towel. Carefully wash and dry the vehicle, then turn your efforts to the interior, especially the driver's seat area and dashboard. Take your time detailing the interior, and clean any soil off the steering wheel. Finally, you are ready to post your ad online or in a local newspaper publication, and get ready to sell your old jalopy!
