Recently, BP, aka British Petroleum, issued a gas recall for gasoline from an Indiana refinery that had been polluted. Though contaminated fuel can play havoc with a vehicle's power train and people should be familiar with it, it is an incredibly uncommon instance.

BP fuel recall a rare instance

BP, or British Petroleum, has apparently decided to mess up again, even after the enormous mistake of spilling oil into the ocean. There are a variety of motorists in northeast Indiana and northwest Illinois dealing with contaminated gasoline that is causing troubles. There is a fuel recall due to contaminated gas from a British Petroleum refinery, according to AutoBlog.

Rough starts or a failure to start is being reported by some motorists, according to ABC Chicago.

The gasoline in question is from one storage decrease, and it brought on one consumer to get $1,200 in repairs. He had to have his spark plugs swapped out, his fuel lines flushed and the injectors cleaned. The regular unleaded-grade fuel was sent to Thornton's, Luke Oil, Costco, Meijer and other distributers, according to AutoBlog.

Most bad gas is from enchiladas

If you went to a Valpariso Mazda dealer and got your car fixed after contaminated gas was in it, it will all be out of pocket; warranties do not cover that. All consumers can get reimbursed for "fuel-related repairs" since British Petroleum guarantees its fuel though, according to AutoBlog.

Though the gas recall is worrying and having an automobile full of fuel that will not get the car to work while still making vehicle loans payments on is frustrating, instances of contaminated fuel and subsequent fuel recalls are fairly rare.

Some of the few that seem to have occurred in the past few years is a fuel recall from a refinery in Minnesota. According to Minnesota Public Radio News, a Mankato, Minn., refinery recalled a large consignment of gasoline after testing revealed too much ethanol had been added, containing more than the standard 10 percent. An incident of a contaminated batch of fuel occurred in August 2009 in Melbourne, Australia, according to TheMotorReport.com.au.

Motor vehicle fuel hardly ever recalled

CBS Los Angeles explained that in June of this year, there was a fuel recall for a gel fuel used in decorative torches. Usually, recalls for fuel is not for the fuel you put in your car but gas for other things.

From 2000, there have only been three recalls that involved propane, according to the consumer product safety commission. There is a list of recalls for gas and other related products at WeMakeItSafer.com. Fuel recalls are not common in any way.
